What it means

Too many requests. reason says which limit was hit and limit is its size. The Retry-After header says how many seconds to wait.

Typical causes

  • api_key_rate: this API key sent more than its plan allows per second.
  • workspace_api_rate: all API keys of the workspace together sent more than the workspace allows per second.
  • api_requests_day: the workspace's API keys used the plan's daily quota (then used and plan are set; it resets at 00:00 UTC).
  • app_rate or app_requests_day: an installed app used its own per-second bucket or daily quota.
  • ip_rate: too many requests from one IP address to an endpoint called without a key (sign-in, OAuth, callbacks).
  • invites_per_day, invites_pending, exports_per_hour: a per-workspace safety quota.
  • A new workspace (trust level 0) has half the normal refill rate.

How to fix it

  • Wait Retry-After seconds, then retry. Back off exponentially if it happens again.
  • Spread bulk work over time and watch RateLimit-Remaining. See Rate limits.
